Let’s talk about the elephant in the inbox.

A few years ago, closing a sale felt easier.

People opted in fast. Cart close days were easier. You didn’t have to push, people were ready.

But that’s shifted.

We’re in what we would call a trust recession and it’s changing how we sell.

People are more cautious. They’ve seen more. They need more clarity before they commit.

It doesn’t mean they aren’t buying but they are buying differently.

Reach is down. Ads are more expensive. Buyers are slower to act. And the economy is shifting underneath it all.

So let’s talk about how to shift with it.

How to build trust through your messaging and strategy

If your conversions are down, your list growth has slowed, or people aren’t clicking like they used to it’s not just the funnel. It’s how you’re communicating.

Here’s where to focus:

1. Be specific about who your offer is for
One of the biggest trust-breakers is vague messaging.

We covered this in last week’s training: if you’re a coach, you’re not “coaching everyone.” And your audience needs to know that.

If they don’t see themselves in your message, they assume it’s not for them.

Example:
Instead of: “I help women grow their business with mindset and strategy…”
Say: “I help service-based women founders who are great at what they do but still struggle to sell - build a simple email funnel that converts without pressure.”

The more clearly someone sees themselves in your message, the faster trust is built.

2. Make your opt-in about a real, immediate win
People are tired of vague promises. They want a result they can use today.
→ Instead of: “Grab my free guide to content planning”
→ Try: “Steal the 3-email nurture sequence I use to turn new leads into booked calls”

Clarity builds confidence.

3. Lead with proof — not polish
High-production visuals don’t build trust. Relatable results do.

Use:

  • Screenshots

  • Testimonials

  • Voice-of-customer language

  • Clear before/after transformations

And place them everywhere: opt-in pages, thank-you pages, confirmation emails. Don’t wait to “prove it.”

4.Use your emails to remove doubt
Every email in your sequence should be doing one of three things:

  • Answering a hesitation

  • Reinforcing a belief

  • Showing them what’s possible

If your nurture emails read like coaching instead of convincing, people stick around and eventually, they buy.

This moment isn’t asking you to push harder, it’s asking you to communicate smarter.

Here’s a quick trust audit to run across your messaging, pages, and emails:

Ask yourself:

  • Is my promise clear and specific?

  • Am I showing proof or expecting blind trust?

  • Would someone know this offer is for them within 10 seconds?

  • Is the tone confident and helpful or hype-y and vague?

  • Have I removed friction or added more questions?

If any of those make you hesitate, that's your next opportunity to build deeper trust and increase conversions.
