The truth about “not being ready”

Good morning 👋
I almost didn’t start my email list because I thought it had to be perfect and said to my self “I’m just not ready”.
I spent weeks “researching tools,” rewriting my welcome email 37 times, and waiting for the right idea for a lead magnet.
Spoiler: none of that mattered.
What finally worked?
→ Letting go of the “I’m not ready” excuse
→ Picking the simplest tools and just starting. ( I use Beehiiv and Kajabi )
→ Sending imperfect emails to real people.
→ Learning as I went — instead of waiting for perfect.
This week, we’re bringing it back to basics:
→ What tools you actually need (and what to skip)
→ How to send your first email without overthinking it
→ Why your list can start working for you before it’s “ready”
P.S. The Email Growth Bootcamp is now open — where I help you set all of this up step-by-step (without the overwhelm).
Let’s get into it 👇
What’s Inside Today’s Email
Start before you feel ready and keep it simple.
Does your business actually need an email list? Let’s check.

Can I actually make money with a small list?
The Marketing Move
Start before you feel ready and keep it simple.
So many people stall on building their email list because:
❌ They think they need fancy tech
❌ They’re waiting for the “perfect” idea or audience
❌ They assume it’ll take weeks to set up
You don’t need all the answers to start.
You just need the next step.
Here’s how to keep it simple:
1️⃣ Pick your tools
You don’t need bells and whistles.
📧 Use an email platform that’s easy to set up. I recommend tools like
Don’t overthink this part, most platforms have a free option to start.
Buy a domain (GoDaddy or Google Domains is fine) it makes you look professional and keeps you out of spam and use Canva for quick graphics and Loom if you want to record something personal.
2️⃣ Don’t overthink your first opt-in
You don’t need a fancy lead magnet to start.
Even a basic welcome email or a one-page PDF (“5 Mistakes to Avoid…” or “Quick Start Guide…”) works.
3️⃣ Write & send the first email
The most important step isn’t writing the perfect email, it’s writing the first one.
Introduce yourself, tell them what to expect, and invite them to hit reply.
That’s it.
👉 Starting messy > not starting at all.
👉 Every big list you admire began with one subscriber.
👉 Tools and tech matter less than momentum.
So stop waiting for perfect just start.

The Feed Check
Does your business actually need an email list? Let’s check.
Spoiler: if you’re reading this, the answer is probably yes.
It’s easy to assume email is “something I’ll figure out later” but for most businesses, later is already costing you.
Here’s how to know if you’re ready (and why your business probably needs email right now):
→ Do you sell something people can buy: a product, a service, a program?
→ Are you relying solely on social media: where the platform owns your audience, not you?
→ Do you feel like you’re posting constantly but not building real, lasting relationships?
If you nodded along to any of these it’s time to stop putting it off.
Because email isn’t just another marketing channel.
It’s the only channel you actually own and the most reliable way to reach the people who already raised their hand to hear from you.
Pro Tip:
You don’t need a perfect offer or a huge audience to start.
You just need to stop renting your audience from social media and start building your own.
This week, ask yourself: If Instagram or LinkedIn disappeared tomorrow, could I still reach my audience?
Smart businesses don’t just chase followers.
They build foundations.
And the foundation?
Is your list.

One Prompt to Rule Them All
Hey Chat……..help me figure out what my email subscribers actually want from me.
If you’re not sure what to say, what to offer, or even what kind of freebie would get people to sign up this one’s for you.
This week’s prompt helps you use ChatGPT to clarify what your audience cares about, so you’re not guessing when you start sending emails.
You are a customer research expert helping me figure out what my email subscribers actually want from me so I can create content and offers they care about.
Here’s what you need to know:
– My business type: [e.g., coaching, ecommerce, services]
– Who my audience is: [describe your audience]
– The main problem I solve: [insert]
– What I sell: [insert product/service/offer]
Generate:
✅ 5 common struggles or questions my audience has
✅ 3 simple lead magnet ideas based on those struggles
✅ 3 email topics that build trust and position me as the solution
✅ One way to subtly introduce my paid offer in email
This helps you focus your emails on what your audience wants to hear, instead of guessing so when you’re ready to set up your list, you’ll already know what to say.
Try it. Tweak it. And let me know how it goes.
Ask the Inbox
“Can I actually make money with a small list?”
Short answer? Absolutely.
The size of your list matters far less than the quality of your audience and the clarity of your offer.
I’ve seen people with fewer than 200 subscribers generate real sales because every name on that list was someone who actually cared.
Here’s why small lists can still convert:
→ You can build stronger, personal relationships when your list is smaller.
→ Engagement rates are often higher than on big, cold lists.
→ You can test offers, learn what works, and improve without pressure.
What matters most isn’t how many people are on your list.
It’s whether you’re sending them clear, consistent emails that solve a problem they care about and making it easy to buy from you.
Remember:
Every big list started with 1 subscriber.
You don’t need thousands to start making sales you just need to start showing up for the ones you already have.

Before You Go
If you’ve been waiting to start your email list because you thought you needed more — more time, more tools, more followers… I’ve been there.
I used to tell myself:
“When I have the perfect lead magnet, then I’ll start.”
“When I hit 1,000 followers, then I’ll start.”
“When things slow down, then I’ll start.”
But here’s what actually happened?
Nothing.
Because starting doesn’t come after you’re ready it’s what makes you ready.
Everything changed when I stopped waiting and just… started.
→ One simple tool
→ One imperfect welcome email
→ One message my audience actually cared about
That’s when the momentum came. Not because I was “ready,” but because I was willing to start where I was.
You don’t need perfect. You just need to begin.
Start there.
